Bro-Peep

Brody and Peep are the stars of my new rhyming children’s book series. I thought little kids might like the idea that they’re reading about actual dogs, so this page is dedicated to celebrating Brody and Peep’s real-life epic friendship. I will update it periodically.

Sir Percival Broderick Lloyd Denning, “Brody” to his friends, was born June 23, 2019. He joined our family at 10-weeks-old. He was a curious and good-natured pup and learned very quickly. We trained him to do tricks, played with him, and took him on daily walks, but it wasn’t enough. It became evident quite quickly that he didn’t have enough stimulation. He became obsessed with herding the lights reflected from our mirrored windchimes and would do it for hours. This damaged his pads and wore down his outermost nails. Drastic action was required!

We got him a friend!

Livia Aziraphale Denning or “Peep” to her friends was born July 2, 2020. Brody loved her from the moment we presented her to him as “Brody’s puppy.” He immediately started taking care of her, standing protectively over her in the yard, and putting up with her naughty puppy behavior.

It quickly became clear that Peep was a true dog’s dog. While Brody was the picture of a little gentleman, Peep loved digging, rolling in the mud, and hanging her head out of the car window to bark and snap at every passing vehicle.

As a young pup, she was so mischievous that she even nipped at me when I tried to brush her. Thankfully, Peep has outgrown (no pun intended) that phase and is now quite gentle. However, during her rebellious puppy phase, her fur became so matted that I had to have her shaved. I’ve never done it again, but her coat didn’t grow back quite right. She now has a permanent bald spot on each flank and one on her rear, usually hidden by her tail. Well, live and learn!
